PPPTF Meeting with TfNSW and City of Sydney
October 10th, 2024
Attending: Bruce and Lesley Bentley, Lyn Tyson, Judy Rapley PPPTF, Emelda Davis, Alex Greenwich MP (and staff), Sebastian Smyth City of Sydney, Robert Rosadi TfNSW, Jessica Lines TfNSW.
389 bus stop Murray Street - the curb space outside the light rail station has been approved by the City of Sydney. Final operational details are being confirmed.
389 bus stop mid-city - 32-36 York Street has been supported by the City of Sydney. Clarence Street for the return 389 bus trip is under investigation.
501 bus route - options are being investigated mid next year and will be open for community feedback. This timing is due to a WestConnex ongoing traffic review and the opening of the new Sydney Fish Markets.
F10 ferry - no update provided despite Tonkin Engineering preparing a report on the condition of the Pirrama Park Wharf for Place Management NSW after visiting on May 15th.
The City of Sydney representative was across all of the issues, but the two TfNSW representatives seemed unaware of the PPPTF campaign, and the progress made over the past two years.
This was in stark contrast to previous meetings with TfNSW. It was disappointing because, following our meeting on June 25th with TfNSW and City of Sydney, we expected to be given dates at this meeting for implementation of the new 389 bus stops and the ferry run.
Given the lack of real progress, Alex Greenwich is requesting a follow-up meeting before Christmas.
Pyrmont Village to Village Community Bus Service
Additional bus stops - Access Sydney will be adding more bus stops to the Pyrmont route and publishing the updated timetable within the next couple of weeks. The time trials are not yet complete because this run started in the school holidays when traffic was lighter than normal.

Progress is being made! 25.06.24
Significant work has been undertaken behind the scenes with extensive consultation between Alex Greenwich MP, TfNSW, City of Sydney and PPPTF. Transport acknowledges Pyrmont needs to better connect people with health, education and retail precincts. Opportunities to improve those connections will be considered as part of the Medium-Term Bus Plan.
In the short term the following update is provided:
1. 389 Bus
Pyrmont bus stops. Subject to further consultation with the City of Sydney Local Traffic Committee, work will commence to enable use of the existing Big Bus stop, in Murray Street (near the Maritime Museum). Buses will then continue their journey and turn around in Darling Drive to commence the next journey to Bondi Junction from a new bus stop outside of the Pyrmont Bay Light Rail Station.
CBD bus stop. TfNSW has acknowledged the preference for a bus stop on York Street as north as possible from Market Street. With the opening of the Metro City section in August and adjustments to bus patterns there may be an opportunity for a bus stop in the vicinity of the preferred location. A stop has also been requested on Clarence Street for the return route of the 389-bus to Pyrmont.
2. 501 Bus Route
Changes to the bus route 501 are being investigated. They are likely to differ between inbound and outbound routes. Community consultation will be undertaken by Transport for NSW before any changes are made.
3. F10 Ferry
Transport for NSW is working with Placemaking NSW and ferry operator Transdev to have the Pirrama Park wharf returned as an F10 ferry stop. Transdev has assessed the wharf and identified issues. Placemaking NSW has engaged maritime engineers to identify repairs required, cost and timing. Transport is ready to implement the service once the wharf is deemed ready for commuters.
4. Light rail hours extended
They were 6:00am – 11:00 pm, they are now 5:00am – 1:00am.
A further update is anticipated during September 2024.
We are pleased to say that PPPTF's advocacy, forums, petitions, meetings and support from Alex Greenwich have been successful in having the hours of the DULWICH HILL LINE LIGHT RAIL increased from 6am-11pm to 5am-1am to match Sydney's other light rail lines.
There is more news to come in the next few weeks regarding
the Pirrama Park ferry, the 389 bus stops and the 501 bus route.
The Station venue, Pyrmont, on 27 September.
The Forum was hosted by Lesley Bentley.
"Local resident's top priorities include securing a bus stop in the centre of the city and in other locations in Pyrmont, ensuring better connections between buses and ferries in Pyrmont, addressing the uncertainty surrounding existing bus stops with the opening of West Connex."
Lesley Bentley, Convenor, Pyrmont Peninsula Public Transport Forum (PPPTF)
